Shabbat Across America 2023 will feature former Lincoln Square Synagogue Beginner and former Radio City Rockette, Darlene Frank.

NOT THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, OR IS SHE?

Darlene Wendy Frank was born and raised in Brooklyn by her parents Marion and Charles Frank. While watching an old movie of Ginger Rogers as a toddler, Darlene already knew she wanted to be a dancer. Luckily, her encouraging parents took her for dance lessons at age eight. (She will tell you more about Ginger Rogers when you meet her.)

By the time she was eighteen, she had begun her career as a professional dancer, eventually joining the famous Radio City Rockettes. Darlene has performed for several Presidents, has danced on the David Letterman Show, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Yankee Ticker Tape Parade, Super Bowl Halftime, and has appeared with celebrities as diverse as Placido Domingo, Liberace, Billie Crystal, Paul Newman, Matt Dillon, Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Allen, Liza Minnelli, just to name a few. As a national spokesperson for The Rockettes, Darlene has been interviewed on ABC, CBS news, Entertainment Tonight, Live at Five, has broadcast the weather on NBC, (more to tell) and has modeled for Leggs Pantyhose and Clairol.

She has traveled throughout the world, living a glamorous but hard-working life of adventure and stardom, and as a national spokesperson for the Rockettes; she has shared her exciting story with newspapers such as the NY Times and the Chicago Tribune. All this happened while trying to live a Jewish life and slowly discovering her Jewish roots. It was and continues to be a struggle. Darlene has come  full circle, currently working at an entertainment union where several Rockettes are members.

She currently lives in Forest Hills, New York where she is putting together a book of her life and one of her famous photographer brother, Jerry Frank. She has led a variety of fitness classes, combining her unique background as a Rockette with her expertise as a professional certified fitness instructor.  Participants in her classes rave about getting the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trying those famous eye high kicks.
