Join us at Seudah Sh'lishit where Rabbi Dr. Natan Ophir (Offenbacher) will discuss "Reb Shlomo Carlebach's Visit To Lincoln Square Synagogue 20 years ago".

Rabbi Dr. Natan Ophir (Offenbacher) grew up in Philadelphia, graduated summa cum laude from Yeshiva University in 1974 and then moved to Jerusalem. He studied for seven years at Yeshivat Mercaz HaRav Kook where he received ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Then he completed his MA and Ph.D. in Jewish Philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he served as rabbi of the campus from 1982–1998.

​ Currently, he directs JMIJ, the Jewish Meditation Institute Jerusalem, whose goal it is to teach practical Jewish Meditation in the light of research in neuropsychology. He also teaches at Lev Academic Center - Jerusalem College of Technology and at the Ono Academic College where his expertise is in developing Computer Aided Instruction and Blended Learning for Haredim to learn English rapidly and efficiently. Recently, he published the first book length academic biography about Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.
 

The Offenbacher family lived in Manhattan and were members of LSS for many years. During 1973/4, Natan was the regular Shabbat baal koreh at LSS, and he gave a class in Bible at the LSS adult education program of the Joseph Shapiro Academy of Jewish Studies.
