Allows
kids to actively participate in the shaping of their own curriculum?
Allows
students to be free enough to challenge and engage the teachers
in a debate of equals on ancient thoughts or current issues?
That's
the Lincoln Square Synagogue Feldman
Hebrew School.
At our Hebrew School, Jewish tradition
is never judgmental, stagnant or monolithic. Tradition is relevant
and speaks in a language that its students can relate to and comprehend.
Although we are housed in a Traditional Synagogue, our school is
non-denominational and successfully attempts to relate to children
from all backgrounds and levels of observance.
Our teachers are young, experienced
and dynamic educators who are graduates of schools of advanced Jewish
studies. They are profoundly committed to Jewish education and come
to us with extensive experience in working with young people. Our
energetic teachers are outstanding role models to their students
of what young Jewish adults should be all about.
Our Hebrew School was founded in
1965 and our founding Principal, LSS's Cantor Sherwood Goffin, still
inspires and leads the program. The Educational Director of our
school is Mrs. Ruth Riemer, an experienced Judaic Studies Educator
and former Chief School Psychologist for the Valley Stream Public
School System. Our leadership's ability to relate to each student,
convey enthusiasm and excitement for Judaism is real and contagious
to our students.
The School meets two days a week
on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, or, optionally, one day a week
(Mon. or Wed.) 4:00 P.M. to 6 P.M.
Our primary class accepts children
from age 5, and our classes continue through to Bar and Bat Mitzvah.
Our teacher to student ratio of 1:5
promotes individualized attention and a high-quality learning environment.
Our tuition is affordable and we
will never turn away a Jewish child for financial reasons.
Synagogue membership is not required.
Bat Mitzvah and Bar Mitzvah preparation
courses are a regular part of our program for those families who
want it.
