Education & Learning at LSS

Lincoln Square makes learning accessible and available to all.  Our shiurim and classes range from daf yomi to modern Hebrew literature, and all levels from beginners to advanced textual analysis.  Offerings include:

  • Weekly classes, given by our own clergy and by guest lecturers.  Classes include both torah she-b’al peh and torah she-b’chtav
  • The Beit Midrash program:  small weekly study groups focusing on readings, textual analysis and practicums, covering a wide variety of topics and issues.
  • We invite Scholars In Residence several times a year to spend a Shabbat with us and to teach in their specific areas of expertise.
  • Museum tours:  we utilize the cultural resources of the New York City, visiting a variety of museums to see what they can teach us about about Jewish life and history.
  • The Beginners program is still going strong after more than 35 years. While the centerpiece of the program is the Shabbat Beginners Service, the service is supplemented by many additional educational and social programs, such as: The Introduction to Bible class Crash Courses in Hebrew Reading, Basic Judaism and Jewish History, monthly Beginners luncheons, holiday Shabbatonim, Beginners Shmoozes, and holiday parties.
