Elul Intensive Classes

Every weeknight during Ellul in the Belfer Beit Midrash you can stretch your mind and inspire your heart. Classes are at 7.30 every evening.

Monday- Movies and Midrash with Rabbi Shaul Robinson. (Begins September 8th)

Films on the themes of the High Holidays followed by a shiur exploring and expanding on the issues they raise.  (The films come from The Ma'aleh School of Television, Film & the Arts in Jerusalem.)

Tuesday- Kaddish Class with Rabbi Shaul Robinson. (Begins September 9th)

Saying Kaddish for eleven months after a passing is one of the most powerful experiences of mouring.

Wednesday- Teshuva and the Modern Jew with Rabbi Josh Rosenfeld. (Begins September 3rd)

Looking at the High Holidays and the Repentance Process in a Reflective, Redemptive, and Radical New Light.

Thursday- Making Prayer Real: Reading and Reflecting on the High Holiday Machzor with Rabbi Ben Elton. (Begins August 28th)

Get ready for the prayer marathons with study and discussion on key texts.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays our popular programs continue:

Tuesday- Tanach Survey led by Marcy Zwecker and Robyn Mitchnick; First Book of Samuel: Politics and Kingship, led by Ron Platzer; Subversive Religious Poetry of Yehuda Amichai, led by Sara Brzowsky.

 

Wednesday- Talmudic Methodology, with Rabbi Dennis Weiss; Yiddish Writings of the Rav, led by Moshe Sheinwexler.


 

On September 6 we will be starting a new class, to add depth to our Shabbat morning prayers: The Siddur In Depth with Rabbi Ben Elton. 8.30 am in the Nathaniel Richman Cohen Main Sanctuary

Selichot Services

 

 

First Night of Selichot, September 20

In the days leading up to Rosh Hashana we gather together to offer extra prayers, for forgiveness and return. By tradition we begin on the last Saturday night of the year, with two options.

10pm: Address by Rabbi Shaul Robinson followed immediately by Selichot services led by Chazzan Yanky Lemmer.

11pm: Selichot Lecture by Rabbi Dov Linzer, Rosh HaYeshivah, Yeshivat Chovevei Torah.

1am: Late Selichot


Every morning until Yom Kippur, morning services will begin with selichot and then will be followed by Shacharit.

Looking Forward...Succot

Once again, Lincoln Square will be offering all Yom Tov and Shabbat meals in our beautiful succah on the terrace.  We will holding two special events over Chol HaMoed. Look out for further details:

Succah BBQ – enjoy good food and good company before the weather turns bitter!

Rabbi Ben Elton book launch – Rabbi Elton’s book Britain’s Chief Rabbis and the Religious Character of Anglo Jewry is coming out in paperback. We will launch the book at a special event in the succah, with a discussion of Modern Orthodoxy in Britain and America.
