Various things to do regarding job search strategies


NETWORK – make personal business cards and network. Talk to your friends, your relatives, parents of kids in your children’s classes, members of your clubs and other LSS members. Prepare 30 second elevator speech about what you have been doing professionally and what you are looking for.

Attend New York Public Library Job Information Center at Mid-Manhattan Library free classes, check out their huge collection of books about resumes, cover letters, interviewing and the job search, as well as examine their web site.

Register at OU Job site, attend their free classes (live, by phone or online), sign up for their newsletter, and check out their job postings.

A wide variety of services are available from FEGS (supported by UJA Federation). After registering you attend their mandatory orientation session, read their tips, check out their job postings (www.parnossahworks.org/), and then set up automatic e-mail watch for specific jobs. They provide a wide variety of free workshops and individual career counselors to work with you on your resumes and interview skills. They have an entire team of people dedicated to helping you in the job search process.

Locate and met with all significant job placement/headhunters in your industry or area. While they currently might not have anything, they are most likely not busy, hungry for leads and new business and often have a lot of experience in helping people improve their resumes.

Set up profile on Linkedin and possibly Facebook.

Look for jobs online, along with signing up and setting up alerts on jobs
