Care

Upper West Side Gemach
This is a repository for new and gently used clothes for those in need -
both within our community and beyond it.

The Upper West Side Gemach is open to all! We invite you to come and peruse our collection. Visits are by appointment only. All are welcome to schedule a confidential and private appointment with the Gemach. The Gemach will be open one Sunday and one weekday a month. Please check The Jewish Center website to see when it will be open next. Visitors will have complete privacy while shopping. We suggest that people give a $1 donation – toward tzedakah – for each item purchased while shopping.

Privacy
  • This initiative is volunteer-driven – by both teens and adults. The anonymous email address will be answered by dedicated volunteers all of whom respect the privacy of those emailing. All correspondences, calls and visits are entirely confidential.
  • The Gemach space will be overseen by dedicated volunteers, most of who are in high school, and are interested in assisting and respecting the privacy of those who come to visit.
  • Volunteers will greet guests and escort them to the shopping area to ensure that they have complete privacy. Guests will be able to shop alone, since volunteers will be waiting in a separate room.
  • If it is a busy day, and we have many appointments, we will arrange it so that guests are able to enter and exit privately. We are devoted to respecting all of our shoppers privacy and schedules.
