Established on Chanukah 5765 at LSS at the inspiration of our Kollel guys, LSS’s Adopt an IDF Unit project first raised funds for warm fleece jackets for Elliot Zweig and his fellow soldiers of Unit 932 as they served in the Golan Heights during the winter. LSS youth wrote letters and created pictures for the soldiers, so the Unit could get to know more about our community. Bernard Zweig, who heads the committee, invites new members to join.

This year we raised $13,000 to help build Ha’bayit shel Benji (Benji’s House), a group home for chayalim bodedim, soldiers with no family living in Israel or from underprivileged Israeli families. We had aimed to raise $10,000 to outfit a computer room; the money we raised beyond our goal will purchase mezuzas for the building.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, the committee has chosen to help the Friends of Israel Disabled Veterans— Beit Halochem. We aim to fund an educational scholarship for members of the Israel Defense Force that have been injured. These scholarships will pay for retraining or reschooling the soldiers. Please commerate the 60th anniversary of Israel by supporting this worthy endeavor. Checks should be made out to LSS RDF.
